What, When, and Where to Recycle

Materials may be delivered only during specified operating times and will be rejected if not properly prepared!

The West End Recycling Center and the New Berlin Recycling Center will continue to accept non-insulated siding and storm doors with hardware and glass removed. Please ask the volunteer on duty how to assist you with these items.

How to Prepare Items for Recycling

Bi-Metal Cans: Tin or steel cans should be rinsed thoroughly. No paint cans.

Aluminum: Beverage and food cans only. No paint or aerosol cans, frying pans, etc.

Glass Containers: Rinse, remove lids and caps, and separate by color…brown, green, and clear. No window glass, dishes or drinking glasses, ceramics, pottery, light bulbs, etc.

Plastic Bottles: Separate ∆1 and ∆2 plastics. Bottles must be shaped with mouth smaller than body only for recycling. No butter dishes, motor oil bottles, brake fluid bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam, or packing peanuts. Remove caps, rinse, and flatten.

Newsprint: Newspapers and inserts; if it comes with the paper, it can be recycled with it. Make sure all newspaper is clean and dry.  The placement of loose newspapers in recycling bins is the preferred method, no binder twine, paper bags, plastic bags, or other binding materials.

Magazines and Catalogues: Magazine, catalogs, and phone books should be clean and dry for recycling.  The placement of loose magazines, catalogs, and phone books in recycling bins is the preferred method, no binder twine, paper bags, plastic bags, or other binding materials.

Cardboard: Corrugated cardboard only may be recycled. Keep it clean and dry and use no binder twine or other binding materials. No wax cardboard, no books, no tissue, pizza boxes, etc.

Other Important Guidelines

  • Only listed items may be brought to the recycling center.
  • Sort items prior to arrival.
  • You are responsible for unloading your recyclables.
  • Place recyclables in the appropriate collection roll-offs.
  • Any items brought to the recycling center that are not acceptable MUST BE TAKEN HOME WITH YOU. Depositing unacceptable items will be considered littering and subject to fines and penalties.
