About the Planning Commission

Mission

The Planning Commission is dedicated to providing planning services to municipalities, citizens and organizations within Union County with an emphasis on sustainability and maintaining our rural landscape and way of life. Our mission is to foster quality planning that promotes orderly growth and development by balancing competing community needs such as economic expansion to retain viability with the protection of the built and natural environment.

Commission Profile

The Planning Commission is an advisory board of nine citizens appointed by the Union County Board of Commissioners. The Planning Commission and department staff assists in preparing planning programs and provide guidance to the County Commissioners. Program activities include the collection, analysis and dissemination of data; coordination and education; technical assistance to municipalities, other County departments, non-profit organizations and businesses; countywide planning; and coordination with regional, state and federal agencies.
