It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Judge Michael H. Sholley on September 28, 2024. Judge Sholley’s career in public service spanned several decades, beginning with his time in the military and as a police officer. He later pursued legal studies, earning his law degree and entering the practice of law. He was subsequently elected Snyder County District Attorney before ascending to the bench, where he served for 12 years as a judge of the 17th Judicial District. Following his retirement in 2022, he continued to contribute to the judiciary as a senior judge.
Judge Sholley was especially dedicated to the juvenile dependency and delinquency initiatives across the Commonwealth. His work in these areas left a lasting impact on the juvenile justice system, shaping practices and policies that will endure beyond his tenure on the bench.
On behalf of the judiciary, we extend our deepest condolences to Judge Sholley’s family, friends, and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. Further details regarding memorial services and arrangements will be shared as they become available.
Signed,
The Honorable Lori R. Hackenberg
President Judge
17th Judicial District
